Tim Hortons cafe at Select Citywalk records Rs 5 lakh in daily sales

Three weeks into its India debut, Tim Hortons is off to a good start, with the Canadian-based coffee company recording an average daily sale of Rs 5 lakh at its outlet in New Delhi’s Select Citywalk Mall, according to two sources.

On August 12, Tim Hortons made its India debut with two outlets in the National Capital Region (NCR) – one each in Select Citywalk and DLF’s retail and dining destination CyberHub in Gurgaon.

On Thursday evening, the Tim Hortons outlet at Select Citywalk was bustling with customers and many customers were waiting for tables. Bang in front of a Starbucks outlet was also breathtaking.

Navin Gurnaney, managing director of Tim Hortons in India, said he would ask his PR firm to call IndiaRetailing with their comment. We will include their comment whenever it comes.

A market watcher said it’s too early to tell if Tim Hortons’ early sales figures could hold up or if it’s just early euphoria. He cited examples of brands such as H&M, Johnny Rockets, among others, which saw impressive sales when they first started in India and then sales gradually faltered.

He said Tim Hortons sales at Select Citywalk could be affected since the Canadian company opened another outlet in Green Park just four miles away this week.

Tim Hortons, Owned by Canada’s Largest Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Operator, Tim Hortons Inc., Enters India in Franchise Partnership with AG Café, a Joint Venture of Apparel Group and Gateway Partners . Apparel Group was formerly known in India as Major Brands India and the Tim Hortons outlet at Select Citywalk appeared in the roughly 1,500 square foot space that was previously occupied by La Senza, a Canadian lingerie brand marketed in India by Major Brands.

AG Cafe holds Tim Hortons master franchise rights for India, Bangladesh and the Gulf Cooperative Council which has markets such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
