La Friperie Boutique, which raises funds twice a year for Maison Aube-Lumière with an ephemeral thrift store of women’s ready-to-wear, opened its doors on Wednesday for its spring edition. The store will remain open until June 4.
Aube-Lumière, located in Sherbrooke, is a non-profit organization that offers free palliative care to cancer patients. The organization needs $1.5 million a year to maintain its services, and with only 39% of that coming from donations, events like the Friperie Boutique are imperative to keep the operation afloat.
Those interested can find thousands of pieces of women’s clothing, including clothing, hats, shoes, jewelry and more at a fantastic price, with all proceeds going to Maison Aube-Lumière.
Diane Roy, who manages the event, and her team of altruistic volunteers will run the Friperie Boutique from May 4 to June 4, Wed. to Sat., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Place des Congrès, Center commercial, room 132, 2655 , King Street West, Sherbrooke.
The team has been organizing and collecting donations since January in preparation, resulting in a huge range of options to choose from.
People woke up early on opening day Wednesday, with the store full of eager shoppers and a long queue formed of those eager to enter.
Fortunately, due to the large number of donations, there is a wide selection of items to choose from, which change daily.
This year, any surplus will also go to war-affected Ukrainian refugees.
Each edition of La Friperie Boutique, which takes place in the spring and fall, raises approximately $40,000 for Maison Aube-Lumière, all made possible thanks to the generous work of clothing donors and volunteers who run the shop.
Aube-Lumière has welcomed more than 3,500 people with terminal cancer since 1997, providing quality palliative care to people in need and contributing to the advancement of education on the subject.
With 49 percent of the center’s budget coming from fundraising events, the continued ability to provide patient care relies on these types of projects.
La Boutique Friperie is an excellent option for those looking for women’s fashion at a good price. Dropping into the store is a great way to help out those in need and look good while doing it.
