Some of the gems of the factory shop that have great products on our doorstep
You can’t beat high quality, locally produced produce available right on your doorstep.
With the popularity of online shopping skyrocketing, with no signs of slowing down, it can be easy to forget what kinds of things are available right under our noses.
Factory outlets give their visitors the chance to pick up great products, but with some manufacturing products just a few feet from where they are made, they also allow us to support the local economy.
Derbyshire has an array of these gems scattered across the county, and with Christmas looming, there might not be a better time to come and see what is filling their shelves.
At Derbyshire Live, we’ve put together a list of some of the outlet stores that we think are worth checking out this holiday season.
John Smedley Mill Shop – The World’s Best Knitwear
Located near Matlock and established in 1784, John Smedley Mill Shop is the oldest manufacturing plant in the world.
His journey began during the Industrial Revolution at Lea Mills, and the company has grown steadily since.
The brand has built a solid reputation for producing high quality knitwear, which has earned it the Royal Warrant of Appointment as a “fine knitwear maker” from Queen Elizabeth II.
Equipping Outdoor Technologies UK
Selling both Rab and Lowe Alpine clothing in Alfreton, this outlet store is for those looking for outdoor sportswear.
Some of the great deals on offer include the Rab Borealis Tour tops for £ 35.
Another Alfreton-based store, David Nieper primarily sells high-end, locally produced women’s clothing.
The company was founded in 1961 and although it remains based in Derbyshire it now sells to customers around the world.
Wirksworth Factory Store
One of the UK’s largest independent outlet stores, Wikrsworth aims to supply a wide range of clothing, footwear, home textiles, workwear and accessories.
Since its inception in 1981 the store has built a solid reputation locally and, having launched its online business in 2012, now ships throughout the UK.
This family business specializes in safety shoes.
It has diversified its range in recent years and despite its international reputation for its products, it has maintained its status as an SME.
The company prides itself on being a highly sustainable business and places a strong emphasis on its corporate social responsibility.
Nater PPE Work and leisure clothing
Nater PPE is also a producer and commercial of work clothes, offering personalized products to its customers.
Opened in 1972, the manufacturer has successfully marketed its own brand, Ballinger, worldwide.
The original factory outlet
With several branches in Derbyshire, the Original Factory Shop is incredibly popular with shoppers.
Offering must-see great deals on brands like Adidas, Phillips and Next up to 70% off, it’s easy to see why TOFS continues to grow in success every year.
