PM Modi meets CEO of Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo

Modi asks him ‘to participate in the PM-Mitra program aimed at further strengthening the textile sector’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the CEO of Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo, Tadashi Yanai, on Monday to discuss investment opportunities for the retailer in textile manufacturing in India.

“Boosting the Indian textile sector. Prime Minister @narendramodi met with CEO of Fast Retailing, parent company of @UNIQLO_JP, Tadashi Yanai,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted. “Discussed Uniqlo’s growing presence in India and investment opportunities for textile manufacturing in India under the PLI program.”

While Yanai appreciated the entrepreneurial zeal of the Indian people, Modi asked him “to participate in the PM-Mitra program aimed at further strengthening the textile sector”, tweeted PMO India.

The PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks Scheme (PM MITRA) aims to develop textile parks through a special purpose vehicle owned by central and state government and in a public-private partnership (PPP) model ).

Each park will have an incubation center, a common processing house and a common effluent treatment plant and other textile-related facilities, such as design centers and test centers. The Master Developer is not only required to develop the industrial park but also to maintain it during the concession period.
