Ocean State Job Lot opens in former Toys R Us store in Freehold Township

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – Ocean State Job Lot, a discount store, is reopening in County Monmouth.

The company, who closed their Shrewsbury store in 2019, opens its new location on Trotters Way, opposite the Freehold Raceway shopping center, today at 9 a.m.

She bought and renovated the old 44,784 square foot Toys R Us store. The toy retailer filed for bankruptcy in 2017, closing all of its remaining stores.

Ocean State Job Lot, which has five other stores in New Jersey, sells branded and closing products at discount prices.

The changing variety of items includes housewares, clothing, pet supplies, seasonal produce, pantry staples, and gourmet and specialty food items.

It could be abandoned merchandise from another store, another location, another retailer who will give it to us at a discounted rate, said Jeff Greene, Team Leader at Freehold Store.

“We can deliver great value to our employees, to our customers. “

Store associates are preparing to open the new Ocean State Job Lot store in Freehold Township on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Freehold Raceway Shopping Center:New rules could revive it, but with very different stores

The Freehold Township store comes about two years after its successful store on Newman Springs Road in Shrewsbury closed, a move made following a dispute with the owner.

“It’s a beautiful place,” Greene told What’s Going There during a pre-opening tour Monday.

The store is next to Bob’s Discount Furniture and Home Depot. It is also very close to a Big Lots, which is also a discount retailer.

Ocean State Job Lot is filling one of the last vacant Toys R Us stores in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Others are now occupied by Burlington at Toms River; The Goodwill Store in Hazlet; and an Amazon Fresh supermarket, which has not been officially confirmed by Amazon, in Eatontown.
