Goodwill to build a new Coshocton retail store

COSHOCTON – A new Goodwill retail store is slated to open next fall in Coshocton.

The Coshocton Port Authority recently announced that Goodwill Industries has purchased a 1,586-acre property just west of Ohio 16 owned by the agency. It’s a wasteland between Signature Healthcare and the Mobil gas station.

The 10,500 square foot retail and donation center will be located at 310 Whitewoman St. The purchase price was $ 190,000.

The current store at 301 Main Street will remain open until the new facility is complete. Items and employees will be moved to the new location at that time. Eight to ten new jobs are likely to be created.

This larger boutique and donation area will have a drop-off option to better serve customers and donors.

For nearly 120 years, Goodwill’s mission to help individuals equip themselves with the skills and employment support services they need and wish to thrive will continue and grow in Coshocton, said the organization in a press release. Gratitude was expressed in the release for the continued support of the Coshocton community.

Goodwill Retail Stores sell a wide variety of clothing and used clothing, books, electronics, home decor and more. Proceeds will go towards job training, job placement services and other community programs for people with barriers to employment.

The association was founded in 1902 by the Reverend Edgar J. Helms of the Morgan Methodist Chapel in Boston. Helms and his congregation collected used household items and clothing discarded in the city’s wealthier neighborhoods, then trained and hired unemployed or poor people to mend and repair them. The products were then redistributed to those in need or given to the needy who helped repair them.
