Giordano opens store in Ghana

Hong Kong-based clothing brand Giordano has opened its first store in Ghana, adding to its African footprint, which already includes Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa and Zambia.

Partnering with local retail chain Melcom Plus, Giordano plans to open more stores nationwide this year in Achimota, Frafrah, Tema and Weija – all inside Melcom department stores.

The first store includes wardrobe essentials and aims to “redefine simplicity” with maximized space for product displays.

Mark Loynd, Executive Director and Head of Foreign Market Development at Giordano, said the company is excited to work with Melcom Plus, which has a network of more than 50 wholesale and retail outlets.

“We are proud to be a ‘global brand‘, and our overseas expansion initiative, which began several years ago, is now bearing fruit,” he added.

Ramesh Sadhwani, Group Managing Director at Melcom, said there was a surge in demand for international fashion brands in Ghana and they were eager to create a new retail landscape in Africa from West by bringing in brands like Giordano.

“Giordano having more than 2,200 stores around the world, we are thrilled to carry the brand. ” he said.
