(CNN) – The supply chain crisis means last-minute gift shoppers may have no choice but to shop the old-fashioned way this holiday season.

Strong demand, combined with supply chain delays, material shortages and hiring difficulties workers, reduce the availability of items both online and in stores. As customers get closer to the last minute, physical stores will become a more attractive option for shoppers than waiting for delivery, analysts say.

Even if customers can’t find exactly what they’re looking for in a store, it’s usually easier to research an alternative in person – and they can try it.

“Brick and mortar may be more appealing to consumers later in the season,” said Rod Sides, vice president of Deloitte and head of its US retail and distribution practice, in a th -mail. “Buyers can leave with the goods in hand, instead of waiting for the dates promised by the shippers.”

Consumers saw more than 2 billion out-of-stock messages while browsing online in October, according to Adobe Analytics. This is one of the main reasons why, in physical stores, sales will increase by 8% this year – a 10-year high – as shoppers return to in-person purchases and try to avoid delays in sales. shipping, according to real estate research firm CBRE.

Analysts also believe online shopping and in-store order pickup will explode this holiday due to shipping issues.

Shoppers will rely more than ever on curbside pickup “to give them peace of mind about their vacation shopping” with wait times and out-of-stock items in the minds of consumers, said Andrew Lipsman, retail analyst at market research firm Insider Intelligence.

Retailers will heavily promote pickup as an option for customers on their websites and mobile apps, in marketing emails and on television to attract shoppers keen to buy online at the end of the season, Lipsman expects. .

Stores say they have more control over in-store inventory and curbside pickup than door-to-door orders, which means there’s less chance of an error. or a delay on an order.

“The closer I got [to the holiday], I would absolutely use the ship for storage because that will give more confidence that I can get the thing on time, ”said Ben Johns, general manager of action sports merchandising at the equipment retailer outdoor REI, in a recent interview.

When customers order online and collect their items from the store, the products are either already in the store or REI ships them from one of its warehouses using its own trucks. This means that REI does not need to rely on third party carriers. he has less control over delivery to customers’ homes, he said.

$ 5 off orders and free covers

Retailers have an incentive to attract shoppers to their stores.

It is generally more cost effective for retailers to have you buy in person than to order from your doorstep because they have to pay high last mile delivery charges. Return rates are also higher for items purchased online, and retailers must bear the cost of customer returns.

Top retailers are pushing customers this year to visit their physical stores to buy or order online and pick up their items in person.

Kohl’s is offering customers $ 5 off orders when they pick them up in store. It also tries to make the pickup process easier for customers by adding new temporary pickup locations and designating more parking spaces for pickups, as well as an automatic pickup test where customers can access their orders at the door. using a link and a code.

Kohl’s expects demand for pickup orders to increase this year, in part because it “eliminates the added stress of waiting for packages to arrive at your doorstep,” said Paul Gaffney, chief technology officer and manager. Kohl’s supply chain, in an email.

Carter’s, the children’s clothing chain, is giving shoppers freebies as an added bonus if they purchase items on certain days in stores – but not online – such as blankets from November 19 to November 21 and a Skip Hop toy from the December 10 to December 12.

Randa Apparel & Accessories, which sells brands such as Levi’s, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and others, has shifted a large chunk of its ad spending to push customers to stores, instead of shopping online. It also directs more of its inventory to stores than to e-commerce.

“When inventory is limited, we prefer to encourage consumers to buy in-store rather than buy online,” said David Katz, Randa Marketing Director.

Customers who buy products in-store are more profitable for Randa than online sales, which often carry “very large reverse logistics costs” on return orders. “We paid the tuition for this education, and it was an expensive lesson to learn,” he said.

When shoppers enter stores, they also tend to make impulse purchases or purchase related items nearby – belts, for example, near the pants they are buying. This happens less frequently when shopping online.

Overall, Katz said, “the frustration level is lower when using mortar and brick, especially when stocks are tight.”

What CVS’s major store closures mean for retail https://lionsshopnflofficial.com/what-cvss-major-store-closures-mean-for-retail/ Sun, 21 Nov 2021 14:46:00 +0000 https://lionsshopnflofficial.com/what-cvss-major-store-closures-mean-for-retail/ AAt first glance, it would seem that CVS (NYSE: CVS) have a pretty good year. AAt first glance, it would seem that CVS (NYSE: CVS) have a pretty good year. The drugstore chain’s share price is up about 41% from a year ago and recently it has seen better-than-expected earnings in line with its expectations. quarterly results report.

While the COVID-19 pandemic may have hit retailers across the board, CVS has emerged as a critical stop for testing as well as vaccines. This has undoubtedly generated a lot of traffic in CVS stores this year and helped the pharmacy giant – and its shareholders – enjoy a strong third quarter.

But despite its success, CVS plans to close many of its stores. And that could be very bad news for real estate investors.

Reduce your footprint

Over the next three years, CVS plans to close 900 stores, or about 10% of its total footprint. And given that CVS has made a name for itself as a vaccination center, this is somewhat surprising.

On the other hand, in many markets, CVS stores have the potential to compete with each other. So part of the company’s recent strategy is to close locations to avoid too much overlap.

But there’s another reason the company is looking to close stores. Some CVS pharmacies are in such bad shape that closing them may seem like a simpler and more cost-effective alternative to renovating them.

Should Real Estate Investors Be Worried?

CVS shareholders should breathe easy after the company’s latest earnings report. But real estate investors may be less than excited about the idea of CVS closings.

CVS typically serves as an anchor point for shopping malls, attracting consumers and enticing other tenants to sign leases to benefit from proximity to a well-known brand. If too many CVS stores close, business owners could end up with a string of vacancies to fill. And considering how many malls are still grappling with vacancies in the wake of the pandemic, that’s not a good thing.

The silver lining, however, is that while CVS may be closing some less desirable and underperforming locations, it recently launched its first virtual primary care service. This could attract more people to its remaining stores, as patients track the care they receive online.

CVS is also planning to remodel some of its existing stores to include more healthcare service offerings. And if he does a great job of attracting people, he might look to expand his footprint once he identifies which services seem to be gaining the most traction.

Finally, like it or not, COVID-19 booster shots could become an annual event, similar to how flu shots are given every year. And that, too, is likely to help CVS maintain a constant flow of foot traffic, helping to ensure that its remaining locations remain relevant. In fact, the shopping center vacancy crisis could end up resolving itself somewhat if CVS sees enough volume to justify expanding some of its existing stores and occupying space that other tenants don’t. don’t seem to want to.

“Jewelry is a way to connect love and feelings,” said Scott Satterfield, jewelry consultant for Traditions Fine Jewelers. Along with a host of others, he attended the ribbon cutting for the store’s new location in the Sandhills Mall on Friday morning.

Plans to open a new location have been on the table since the opening of the first store at the end of 2019; however, due to the pandemic, the owner team was only able to open one store in Lexington. The huge success of the first store during the pandemic paved the way for the new location.

“The two stores combined have the largest amount of jewelry in Colombia,” Satterfield said. “Jewelry was one of the businesses that flourished during the pandemic. Everyone spent more time together and wanted something that connects their memories and their emotions.”

Jewelry has been a long-standing staple in the community, from marriage proposals to a student’s classroom ring to a pearl necklace passed down from mother to daughter. The connection captured in jewelry is truly priceless, and Traditions seeks to help its clients with endless options.

“We believe in selling jewelry beyond our storefront. There is nothing we cannot provide or personalize for our customers,” Satterfield said. The chain’s ability to exceed the needs of each customer is largely influenced by the previous policies of Satterfield’s former company, Jewelry Warehouse. The former family business was sold to the Traditions team of owners after Satterfield lost his wife to cancer in 2016.

The word ‘Traditions’ is defined as the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation. True to their name, both sites satisfy the Carolina team’s long-standing loyalty by offering clothing related to the Carolina Gamecocks and Clemson Tigers.

The Sandhills location will offer the same stellar experience and service formally associated with the jewelry warehouse; some might even see a familiar face.

“Wanda Teague has over twenty years of experience in the jewelry industry and is the new Traditions store manager,” Satterfield said.

The store is located at 481 Town Center Place in the Sandhills Mall to the left of the fountain.

Bangalore, November 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) To strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading fashion brands, Myntra on Tuesday unveiled a boutique dedicated to all things luxury – Myntra Luxe – on its app.

The segment offers luxury connoisseurs access to a curated collection of their favorite luxury brands, which also includes many premier luxury brands available on Myntra through The Collective, across all categories.

“Myntra Luxe puts the world’s leading luxury brands within reach of a growing cohort of buyers seeking this category in India today,” said Sharon Pais, Myntra’s chief commercial officer, in a statement.

With this proposal, Myntra entered the luxury segment, reinforcing its commitment to create value for its large clientele by making a wide range of brands and styles accessible to them.

The fashion e-commerce giant has also partnered with The Collective, India’s premier and much-coveted luxury lifestyle multi-brand retailer that collaborates with global luxury apparel and accessories brands, to deliver the initial impetus to launch this segment.

The Collective brings an organized collection of brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Ted Baker, Hackett London, Hugo and Fred Perry to Myntra Luxe.

“We have seen a sharp increase in demand for luxury brands on our platform during the pandemic, which has prompted us to create a dedicated offering for the same and enable luxury customers to take advantage of a distinguished experience, ”said Pais.

“We are particularly excited to launch our Luxe boutique with the addition of The Collective, which has established itself strongly in the minds of customers with its unique assortment of global luxury brands,” added Pais.

The brand assortment also includes Bvlgari, Movado Tissot and many other top brands. The main product categories in this segment include clothing, accessories, footwear, beauty, and watches.

Myntra will initially offer a large collection of 65 luxury brands through the new Luxe store and will continue to further develop the portfolio.

Workers speed up the excavation of a plot at 22-11 31st Street in Astoria – the future site of a three-story commercial building that will house West Queens’ first Target store.

Plans call for 97,314 square feet of site space, with 175 feet of frontage along 31st Street, according to an article posted on the YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) website. The ground floor will feature four retail spaces, including a CVS pharmacy, tech and fitness stores, and an order pickup area, according to YIMBY.

A key food supermarket that has occupied the space for over 40 years was demolished in 2020 to make way for the new development.

The new Target store will offer 47,000 square feet of space, offering a variety of household needs, decorating, men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, baby, toddler and children’s clothing, toys and an adult drinks section. Up to 100 employees will be hired to work at the new Target store, according to YIMBY.

The development is conveniently located a short walk from the MTA NW Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard elevated subway station and close to the RFK – Triborough Bridge and Grand Central Parkway.

New Target store slated for completion in January 2023
