Basking Ridge Athletic Couple Embraces Inner Freak With New Store

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Avid runner and Iron Man triathlete Mohnish “Mo” Wadhwani of Basking Ridge is used to rising before the sun and training 8 hours a day in extreme temperatures.

His family and friends affectionately call him a “monster” for his dedication to physical fitness.

But for Wadhwani “adopting this lifestyle transformed me as a person and gave me healthier habits that influenced my family and friends”.

“I thought, if being a ‘monster’ can inspire and improve so many lives then – absolutely I am a monster!” Wadhwani said.

This revelation led Wadhwani to ask his fashion designer wife Noor to quit her successful corporate career to open Athletifreak – a sportswear and luxury clothing brand. She was completely taken in.

Wadhwani had been a corporate executive for places like Honeywell, Johnson and Johnson and others for 12 years.

“My children were 3 and 1 at the time. I was afraid of giving up my corporate career with small children. I kept going back and forth,” Wadhwani said.

Then at the end of 2019, he said to himself: “it’s now or never”.

The COVID pandemic delayed the opening of Athltifreak but the couple were finally able to launch in February 2021 at their Basking Ridge home.

Wadhwani described the brand as the “perfect collision” of his professional and athletic background and his wife’s creative and fashion experience.

They started with five products using custom-designed fabrics and have since grown to 120 products sold in 47 states and five continents.

Now they are set to open their first outlet at the Bridgewater Commons Mall, 400 Commons Way, Bridgewater on the second floor near the Atrium.

The grand opening will take place on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with Bridgewater Mayor Matthew Moench cutting the ribbon.

“We’re super excited,” Wadhwani said. “My wife and I put in love and energy. Our blood, sweat and tears. That’s what it’s all about. With that, we’re blessed.”

Wadhwani said that the whole premise of Athleticreak is that greatness lies within.

“The athlete spends endless hours developing and training when no one is watching so you can succeed when the lights are on. That’s why we say greatness lies within,” Wadhwani said. . “It’s about your weird passion. Light pulse energy. We all have that in us.”
