Apparel Group receives Platinum Certificate for Energy Efficiency – News

RThe head office and warehouses of the conglomerate etail Apparel Group in the United Arab Emirates have received platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation from the US Green Building Council for operation and maintenance, underlining the group’s commitment to promoting sustainable development.

The 16,552.63 m² mixed-use complex was built in 2017. Approximately 67% of total building materials were from recycled materials and 100% of total wood-based building materials are Forest Stewardship Council certified.

Automated lighting control, air conditioning energy savers and a building design that allows daylighting helped save energy, while sensor faucets and aerators as well as dual systems flush have saved water. The installed irrigation systems use captured rainwater and recycled wastewater, resulting in 100% water-efficient landscaping.

To increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, solar panels were installed as an energy source at the headquarters and warehouses of the Apparel Group in 2019, where 67% of total energy costs were offset by energy renewable energy generated on site.

LEED certification assesses Apparel Group’s overall building design, structure and operations by assessing how these factors promote efficiency, improve performance, and optimize sustainability practices.
